The problem

Fraley and Schilling faced a significant challenge with their dispatching process, particularly when changes occurred after business hours when no staff was available to work directly with drivers. This resulted in inefficiencies and communication gaps that affected driver morale and overall productivity and profitability. The company needed a solution that would operate seamlessly around the clock, reduce idle time, and improve accuracy in load dispatching.

The solution

To tackle these challenges, Fraley and Schilling, in collaboration with Eleos and ASR Solutions, implemented a new fleet-wide mobile driver app that allows their drivers to “self-dispatch” their loads. When arriving at a location, drivers now use their mobile app to select the customer, enter a reference number, and verify they have the correct load.  Once verified, the driver dispatches the load to themselves, eliminating the need for calls to operations and ensuring the process happens automatically on the back end. Using the app, this process is able to happen 24 hours a day without the need to work directly with dispatch back at headquarters. This system was targeted initially at 20 drivers and three shippers, with an estimated 20,000 loads per year set to be available for self-dispatch.
