The problem

Ryder employs over 5,000 drivers who need to stay current on safety related tasks and other objectives set forth by management. Since the drivers are on the road the majority of the time it was difficult to track what had been done and what hadn’t. Ryder had a custom driver app in place but needed to update it to manage these tasks with the ability to report back to HQ when tasks were completed.

The solution

Working with their internal team, Ryder configured the To-Do feature available in their custom app to push out safety training tasks and videos to each driver. A to-do is sent out every two weeks and responses are required for all drivers in the field. The driver is able to log into their app on their mobile device to review the to-do’s and associated videos. This can be done while in or out of their cab, giving them the flexibility to stay up-to-date regardless of where they may be. Now HQ can easily identify who has completed the training and which drivers have not. 

The feature has been such a success that departments beyond their safety team have reached out to use to-do’s for other work-related tasks. Drivers use their app to complete surveys regarding interactions with customers and managers. In addition, the HR department uses to-do’s to manage tasks like signing up for company benefits, signing off on the company manual, and participating in their internal leadership program. The app has given the entire company an easy way to communicate with drivers and improved relationships between drivers and their colleagues at HQ – a win-win for everyone working to help their business thrive.
