The problem

Ryder identified a growing need among its customers for more detailed and accurate documentation of deliveries. Traditional paper-based methods for tracking deliveries, identifying damages, and processing claims were becoming increasingly inefficient. Customers required a solution that could provide real-time, accurate, and verifiable information about their shipments in order to streamline their claims processes and ensure proof of delivery.

The solution

To address these challenges, Ryder developed a comprehensive barcode scanning solution, leveraging the customization capabilities of their mobile driver app built on the Eleos Technologies platform. This solution was divided into three levels, each designed to meet the specific needs of different customers:

  1. Basic Barcode Scanning: This enhancement allows drivers to use their mobile driver app to capture what was unloaded during a delivery and integrates the data directly into Ryder’s Transportation Management System (TMS). Customers can generate reports showing what was delivered, when, and where. The process has been critical in speeding up the time required to close our deliveries and ensures greater accuracy across the board. 
  2. Enhanced Barcode Scanning with Damage Reporting: For customers needing more detailed information, this level allows drivers to scan items, report damages, and capture photos. A PDF document is generated if damages are reported, including all relevant details such as stop information, photos taken by the driver, and delivery location. This feature has been invaluable in helping customers manage claims, proving where and when damages occurred.
  3. Comprehensive Over, Short, and Damaged (OS&D) Record Creation: The most advanced level compares expected barcode scans with actual scans. It provides drivers with immediate feedback on any discrepancies, such as unexpected items or missing scans, allowing them to take corrective actions on the spot. This level digitizes previously paper-based processes, enabling immediate access to data before the driver even returns to the terminal.

This solution, customized in Ryder’s mobile driver app based on the Eleos platform, has allowed Ryder to digitize forms and provide each customer with a unique set of features tailored to their specific needs. The ability to customize these forms has been particularly valuable, as no two customers are the same.
